The Little Sister

Although Driftwood is only up the path, An Bothán offers a more relaxed experience. Freshly ground coffee by the sea or locally caught seafood to go.

Shelter from the storm

Driftwood has been designed with sensitive consideration for its geographical context and natural surroundings. In time, the structure will become a part of the local landscape, the local stone will weather through the seasons and will outlast us all at Driftwood. Our building has been designed and built to offer spectacular views of the bay all while withstanding the battering that the Wild Atlantic brings with stunning force.

Like a lookout tower of yesteryear, the restaurant’s Southerly aspect combined with full length windows offer a view of the Atlantic as it changes throughout the seasons and varying weather conditions, offering you a place to shelter from the storm every time.

Celtic connections

Driftwood was founded by Carl and Jenny O’Connell. Carl grew up in the Glen and the O’Connell family have owned the farm surrounding St Finian’s Bay for several generations.

While living in Scotland, Carl met a beautiful Scottish lass called Jenny and together through their love of food and travel they created Driftwood! Both Carl and Jenny are incredibly passionate about food and the local community.

Their dream has always been to create a unique experience where locals and tourists can come together to enjoy the best of traditional Irish produce whilst celebrating the wild beauty and history of St Finian’s Bay.
